Sunday 4 December, 3.00pm Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Penrith co-presented with Penrith City Choir and featuring a professional semi-chorus and soloists Paul Terracini | conductor For many years, Penrith Symphony Orchestra has collaborated with Penrith City Choir to present an annual performance of Messiah with professional vocal soloists, maintaining an almost century-old tradition of Messiah performances in the Penrith district. The performances are a significant event in the cultural and church calendar of the local area and frequently fill the concert hall. In recent years, conductors of Messiah in Penrith have included Graham Abbott, Philip Chu, Sarah-Grace Williams and Paul Terracini. This year, the familiar music and drama of Messiah will be cast in a new light, with the addition of a professional semi-chorus to the usual choral and orchestral forces. This is a rare opportunity to experience Handel’s evergreen masterpiece infused with new energy through an exciting choral collaboration between expert singers of Baroque choral repertoire and Penrith’s own city choir.
